SEASON 14 SHOWCASE CHOREOGRAPHER APPLICATIONS

Choreographers are compensated with a stipend, as well as provided with weekly rehearsal space (at CDP’s studio in Independence), small costume budget, high quality videos & photos from the performance, exposure to an audience of ~1000 local dance supporters, connections with local dancers, 50% off CDP tuition, and access to discounted CDP studio space rental rates.

All dances must be under 4 minutes long, dances with fewer than 10 dancers must be under 3 minutes long. Choreographers will hold weekly 90 minute rehearsals, consisting of 20-30 minutes of warm-up/technique/training and 60 minutes of rehearsal. Make up or additional time must be approved by the director, and booked and paid for by the choreographer.

Choreographers are expected to create a professional, yet open and accepting dance family environment within their own rehearsals.

Choreographers must be available for a mandatory meeting Aug 4 at Cleveland Dance Project (2:30-4:30pm), auditions Aug 25 at Cleveland Dance Project (10am-8pm); and dress & tech the evenings of Nov 21, 22 and two shows on Saturday Nov 23, location TBD

All applications must be received by the final deadline of July 26, with a $35 non-refundable application fee. Early bird deadline with a $25 application fee is June 15. Late applications will not be accepted.

If selected as a choreographer and you would like to dance in the showcase in other choreographers' piece(s), your tuition is half price. You must still register online for auditions.

CHECK OUT THESE SAMPLE APPLICATION VIDEOS FROM previous SEASONs FOR GUIDANCE ON WHAT YOURS SHOULD LOOK LIKE! TIPS:

  • Keep it short! 1-2 minutes is ideal

  • Be personable - dancers choose whose pieces they want to dance in based on these videos!

  • Showcase YOUR choreography - preferably danced by you to really get a feel for your movement style, but you can bring in friends if needed too.

  • It doesn't have to be fancy! Recording your intro & choreography in your room or outside is totally fine but make sure we can see your whole body and your movement isn’t limited by your space.
